We are in love with stone tile and mosaics, although these stone carvings certainly caught our eyes and a few others!

Wallpaper has announced the winners of its 2013 Design Award. Now in its ninth edition celebrates the best of the best in the world. Winner for the Best Domestic Design Section: Girella designed by Ron Gilad for Salvatori. The "Soft Marble Collection" is the result of a perfect partnership that is expressive and innovative.

Ron Gilad, a new celebrated signature in the international design scene, has succeeded in being innovative, speaking the language of abstract and pure shapes, in pure Salvatori style. “Our collaboration is about sharing visions and an ongoing dialogue that permits us both to go beyond, showing the experimental extremes you can stretch marble to.” Gabriele Salvatori

"This collection of objects is the result of a successful, close-knit collaboration where all of Salvatori’s know-how has been placed at the service of the designer’s creativity. In order to achieve this result, which is both expressive and innovative Ron Gilad studied the material in depth. Ron Gilad uses irony and lightness when creating solid and important objects such as the Girella seat, which evokes butter that has just been cut with a knife."

Pieces designed by Ron Gilad for Salvatori will be exhibited in the Biennale Internationale Design Saint’Etienne. from March 14th-31^st

Creating a Haven

When clients came to Laura Hodgson of Haven craving a new master bath that made them feel pampered with luxurious, spa like materials, Laura knew she was in for a dream project.

After envisioning seven different floor plans, the innovative component of a floating vanity brought the space together perfectly. “By creating two zones, one for her and one for him, we were able to achieve a masculine and feminine feel in one room.”

His side is accented by an oversized shower featuring rectangular tiles from Decorative Materials in three complimenting color ways.

Her side highlights a window, allowing natural make-up lighting. The striking fur bench adds the perfect amount of texture and depth.

“By keeping the vanity off of the walls, we were able to un-obstruct the windows capitalizing on natural light.”

The tub, which ate up too much space, was replaced with a spacious spa like shower.

“The key element of Ambra, a carved limestone, brought in texture and a jumping off point for other materials.” Ambra, from Decorative Materials, played a key role in accenting the clean, sophisticated, simple materials.

The custom concrete sink was designed to coordinate with the textured limestone walls. Two faucets flow elegantly into one center drain.

The room is full of visual eye candy; carved limestone tile, vein cut travertine flooring, trellised wood ceiling details, concrete sinks, wood tonalities and a fur makeup stool. 

“The project completely fulfilled their needs in a unique way,” states Laura who relies on her very pleased clients as the best referral.

Laura’s design prediction is that Gray is here to stay.  She considers it the perfect neutral, “It works with every style, color and time period. There are endless variations on this classic color. It can be integrated into so many aspects of interiors by slightly changing the tint.”
